NOVEMBER CLUB MEETING

NEXT MEETING
Just to remind you that the next meeting of Rainbow Camera Club will take place next Thursday evening, 13 November, in our usual venue of The Cabin (beside the football field), Rossinver, Co Leitrim from 8:00pm to 10:00pm. New members are always welcome.

The first part of this meeting will be the AGM. Hopefully we can get through this business fairly promptly.

OTHER BUSINESS
At next week's meeting we will also discuss the fireworks photoshoot that a good number of members recently took part of in Enniskillen. Some of the photos from that shoot can be seen on the club's Flickr Group Pool here (along with some other photos members have added).

Also we need to discuss possible motivation themes for 2015, and the Christmas dinner planned for December, along with suggestions for future monthly meetings and photoshoots.

MOTIVATIONAL THEME
The motivational theme for next week's meeting is HEDGEROWS. Members may interpret this theme in any way they see fit, and all members are encouraged to submit up to four images on this theme, taken since the January 2014 meeting (9th January 2014), for inclusion in the slideshow after the break at this month's meeting.

Please email your photographs to the club's gmail address. If at all possible resize your images so that they are 1024 pixels on their longest edge, and make sure that they are sent by
midnight on Tuesday 11th October.

The theme for December is Portraits. Some members were present for a refresher on taking portraits at the end of the 'training' day in the Ballagh Centre on Sunday 26 October. Perhaps we may put some time aside for this again at the next session in the Ballagh Centre (Sunday 30 November).

September Meeting

Hope you've had a great summer, and have got loads of new and interesting photographs!

Just a reminder that the September meeting of the club will be held on Thursday, 11th September, at our usual venue of The Cabin, Rossinver, Co Leitrim (beside the football field), starting at 8:00pm

The motivational theme for this month's meeting is "Architecture". Members are free to interpret this as they see fit, and are encouraged to send in up to four images on this theme, taken since the January 2014 meeting (9th January 2014), for inclusion in the slideshow after the break at this month's meeting. Please email your photographs to the usual club email address. If at all possible resize your images so that they are 1024 pixels on their longest edge, and make sure that they are sent by midnight on Tuesday, 9th September.

The video from the July meeting (motivational theme "Pets") has now been uploaded to the club's Youtube page and you should be able to view it here.

One of the things we shall be discussing at this month's meeting will be the 2015 North-West Regional rounds of the IPF Print & Projected Image and National Nature competitions. It may seem early to be discussing this, but the NW rounds will probably be held very early in 2015 (if not before the end of 2014) as the National Finals will be held in February 2015, and one of the points of the Regional rounds is to select images to go forward to the Finals. From what I have seen of the images submitted to the motivational themes we have more than just a few members whose images would be hard beaten in the regional rounds. We missed our chance this year by not being prepared in advance, so let's take this opportunity to showcase our club!

Finally a reminder of the motivational themes for the rest of the year:-
  • October - Trees
  • November - Hedgerows
  • December - Portraits
With the onset of autumn, now may be a good time to be thinking about trees and hedgerows if you haven't already taken pictures. The autumn fruits are now in the hedgerows, and I've even seen some trees starting to take on their autumn colours.

July Club Meeting & Motivational Slideshows

The next meeting of Rainbow Camera Club will be held on Thursday, 10th July, in our usual venue of The Cabin (beside the football field), Rossinver, Co Leitrim from 8:00pm to 10:00pm.

At this meeting Boyle-based photographer Tony Murphy will be giving us a talk and presentation
about the early life of Fr Frank Browne, one of Ireland's most famous photographers. In particular he will talk about the photographs Fr Browne took of the Titanic on its maiden voyage between Southampton and Queenstown (now called Cobh) in 1912.

Please try to get along to this meeting if you possibly can, as this is our first outside speaker, and it would be a shame if he turned up to talk to a small number of people.

MOTIVATIONAL THEMES
The motivational theme for next week's meeting is PETS. Members may interpret this theme in any way they see fit, and all members are encouraged to submit up to four images on this theme, taken since the January 2014 meeting (9th January 2014), for inclusion in the slideshow after the break at this month's meeting.

Please email your photographs to this address (rainbowcameraclub@gmail.com). If at all possible resize your images so that they are 1024 pixels on their longest edge, and make sure that they are sent by
midnight on Tuesday 8th July.

The slideshow from last month's meeting (Theme: Colours) has now been uploaded to the club's YouTube page and can be viewed here.

Finally, a reminder that there will be no club meeting in August, and that the remaining motivational themes up to the end of the year are as follows:-

  • September - Architecture
  • October - Trees
  • November - Hedgerows
  • December - Portraits

PHOTOSHOOT - TRUSKMORE MOUNTAIN

As agreed at this month's club meeting the photoshoot on the summit of Truskmore Mountain will take place tomorrow evening, Sunday 22 June 2014.
For those who missed the meeting - do not worry, we are not going to have to walk up the mountain, as there is a road that we can drive up in our cars.

This is the highest point in both County Sligo and Leitrim, so hopefully there will be some good views to photograph.

DIRECTIONS

The start point for the drive is in the road known as the Gleniff Horseshoe, and is the gated entrance to the RTE access road to their masts on the summit of Truskmore. This is only a few miles from Ballintrillick and the Benwisken Centre.

In-car satnav coordinates for the access gate are (a) N 54deg 22min 10.03sec; W 8deg 23min 41.13sec or (b) N54.369453; W8.394758

Please arrive by 7:00pm. Once we pass through the gates we must lock them behind us. So expect the gates to be locked by 7:30pm.

Although the forecast is for dry weather, be aware that it may be quite windy on top, so bring warm clothes with you. If you have a tripod bring this as well.

If you have any queries you can ring Marty on his mobile: 086 1068089.

Hoping to see as many of you as possible.

June Meeting Reminder

Just a quick reminder that the next meeting of Rainbow Camera Club will be this Thursday evening, 12 June, in the usual venue of The Cabin, Rossinver, Co Leitrim (beside the football field) from 8:00pm to 10:00pm.

Some of the items on the agenda for this meeting will include a discussion of the draft outline for the club poster that Deirdre has been busily working on since the last meeting, the planned photoshoot to Truskmore Mountain on Sunday 22nd June, and the sideshow of the members' images on this month's motivational theme "Colours".

Hoping to see as many members as possible at this meeting. And new members are always welcome!

Photoshoots & Motivational Slideshows

At this month's club meeting we arranged a club photoshoot for Saturday 24th May. This will take place in the late evening near the bandstand in the park beside Lough Melvin in Garrison, Co Fermanagh. Pat Mullan will be arriving with a vintage 1949 Ford Drop-Head Coupé, and there will be opportunities to take photographs both of the car itself, and possibly get some taken of you sitting in it. Pat expects to be ready for us with the car about 8:00pm.

Also we are hoping to have a photoshoot on the top of Truskmore Mountain (the highest mountain in Counties Leitrim and Sligo) on Sunday 22 June. Don't worry - you will not be expected to walk up the mountain, as we shall be arranging to drive up the RTE access road to the RTE masts on the summit. Weather permitting there should be great views from the summit. The summit itself, with the RTE masts, will present great opportunities or photographs as well. Further details will be issued closer to the date.

The slideshow shown at this month's meeting of the images submitted for the "Derelict Buildings" motivation theme has now been uploaded to the club's YouTube page and you can view it here.

And finally a reminder that the motivational theme for the June meeting is Colours.

Hope to see as many of you as possible in Garrison on the 24th!

May Meeting Reminder

A late reminder to all that the May club meeting will be held this coming Thursday (8 May) in the usual venue of The Cabin, Rossinver, Co Leitrim (beside the football field) from 8pm to 10pm.

We were hoping to have a talk from a Roscommon photographer during the first half of the meeting. Unfortunately he is not available this month but has agreed to talk to us in the July meeting. As a result we have arranged "something else" which hopefully will interest you all. So come along and have some fun! Who knows, you might learn something as well.

After the break there will be the usual slideshow of members' photographs from this month's motivational theme Derelict Buildings. Nine members submitted a total of 32 photographs for this slideshow.

Finally here's a photograph of the eight club members who attended the club photoshoot at Florencecourt House last Saturday. A great time was had by all in spite of the poor weather. A full report on the shoot will be given at this month's meeting.

Club Photoshoot - Florencecourt House, Co Fermanagh, Saturday 3rd May

At the last club meeting it was decided to hold a photoshoot at Florencecourt House, Co Fermanagh, on Saturday 3rd May, starting at 4pm.

If you drive in through the main gate (or even walk in through it) there is a charge of £4.50 per adult. However, if you drive past the main gate (on your right) there is another locked gate about 40 meters or so further on, also on the right. There is a stile beside this locked gate that you can climb over and walk up to the house for free. The walk takes about 5 to 10 minutes and leads through the woods where there are a lot of photo opportunities.

Club members are requested to meet at this second gate at 4pm. There is space to park at least half a dozen cars in front of this gate (and also some parking spaces on the other side of the road.

You can find out more information about Florencecourt House at http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/florence-court/

Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the day!

"Lines" Slideshow from April meeting now online.

The motivational theme for March was Lines. Ten club members submitted a total of of 33 images for the slideshow that was shown after the break at the club meeting on Thursday 9th April.

That slideshow has now been uploaded to the club's YouTube site, and can be viewed here.

Well done to all involved!

Just a reminder that the motivational theme for the May meeting is "Derelict Buildings". Members are encouraged to interpret this theme as they see fit, and to send in up to three images (taken since 9th January 2014) to the club's email address by midnight on Tuesday, 6th May.

(1) March Club Meeting Date and Time
The next monthly meeting of Rainbow Camera Club will be held in our usual location of The Cabin, Rossinver, Co Leitrim this coming Thursday (13 March) starting at 8:00pm.

New members are always welcome.

(2) Main Presentation on the Night
Before the break this month Joel Smith, manager of the New Ballagh Centre in Rossinver, will be showing us some of his photographs, talking about how he took them, and also about how he has managed to make some money from them. He will be giving us some information about the local festival later this year (some time in August, I believe), and how Rainbow Camera Club members might get involved in it.

(3) Motivational Slideshow
Just to remind you all that the motivational theme chosen for this month's slideshow to be shown after the break was Low Light Photography. Members are free to interpret this theme as they see fit, and are each encouraged to send up to three images on this theme, taken since the January 2014 meeting (9th January 2014), for inclusion in the slideshow after the break.

As I shall not be in the country for this month's meeting, please send this month's motivational pictures to Pat Mullan's email address (oakfieldphotography@gmail.com), as he shall be putting this month's motivational slideshow together. Please get them to him
before midnight on Tuesday 11th March.

Ideally images should be re-sized to 1024 pixels on their longest side before emailing them to Pat.

(4) February's Motivational Slideshow Just to let you know that a copy of the slideshow of members' motivational photographs (it was an Open theme)  shown at last month's club meeting (13 Feb) has now been uploaded to the club's YouTube page, and can be viewed by clicking here.

 (5) Rainbow Camera Club Flickr Page
Those of you who haven't already seen them may also like to check out the Club's Flickr page, where some of the indoor portraits taken during the February meeting have been uploaded. Check it out  here.

 (6) Motivational Theme for April Meeting
Just a quick reminder that the motivational theme for the April meeting is Lines. Once again any photos taken since 9th January 2014 are eligible for submission under this theme. The images for the April slideshow should be sent to the usual address (rainbowcameraclub@gmail.com)
Please do not send any photographs for the April theme until after the March 2014 meeting.

February Meeting

A few bits of information regarding the club meet this coming Thursday (13th Feb)

(1) Location

We shall be meeting in our usual spot: The Cabin, Rossinver, Co Leitrim, with a start time of 8:00pm

(2) Motivational Slideshow

Just to remind you all that the motivational theme chosen for this month's slideshow to be shaown after the break was an Open one. This means that members are free to send up to three images, on any theme, taken since the last meeting (9th January 2014) to rainbowcameraclub@gmail.com before midnight on Tuesday 11th February for inclusion in the slideshow.
Also a reminder that the motivational themes for the rest of the year have already been decided upon. Details of each month's motivational theme can be found on this website here.
(3) Photo Critique
Club member Regina Magee offered at last month's meeting to provide a photograph of hers for critique by other members of the club. Hopefully this will become a regular item at club meetings - with other members offering to submit an image in different months - and everyone will learn at least something from the discussions that follow.
We shall probably look at Regina's image after the opening announcements at this month's meeting.
(4) Demonstration Of Portrait Photography
Club member Pat Mullan has offered to give a short demonstration before the break on portrait photography. If members wish to bring along their own cameras then perhaps they will be able to learn a little about how to use them to take portraits.
(5) Club Fees
Finally just a reminder that if you have not yet paid your annual subscription fee (€25 Adult and €10 Junior) they are now due.

2014 Motivational Themes

At this month's club meeting it was decided to change the way in which the Monthly Motivational Themes will be run. Instead of choosing a theme for the next month at each monthly meeting, we decided that we will issue a set of monthly themes for the whole year. The list is given lower down this page.

This means that, instead of members having to take photographs in the month preceding a meeting, they will now have between now and the month in question to take their photos. I would ask, however, that you wait until the month in question before submitting the images for that month, as I will only get confused if I get entries months in advance.

The theme chosen for the February meeting is an Open Theme. This means that members are free to choose any images, no matter what the subject, taken since this month's meeting for submission for the February slideshow. So members can send in up to three photographs taken between now and the next meeting for inclusion in the sideshow. Members are reminded to try to resize their images to 1024 pixels on their longest edge, and send them to the club's address (rainbowcameraclub@gmail.com) by midnight, Tuesday 11th February.

(Tony Murphy of Boyle Camera Club has uploaded a video to YouTube showing how to resize images using Picasa that you may find useful. You should be able to view it here)

Themes for the 2014 are as follows:-
  • February - Open Theme
  • March - Low Light Photography
  • April - Lines
  • May - Derelict Buildings
  • June - Colours
  • July - Pets
  • September - Architecture
  • October - Trees
  • November - Hedgerows
  • December - Portraits
Note that there will be no meeting in August.
