Club Phototoshoot - Saturday October 8th - Ballyshannon Carnival

Rainbow Camera Club has a photoshoot to be held Saturday, 8th October in Ballyshannon, Co Donegal, starting at 7:00pm.

The Ballyshannon Carnival will be taking part that evening, so there should be plenty of photo opportunities. Some details of the carnival can be found by clicking here.

The suggestion is that we meet in the market yard car park at 7:00 pm. This is the large car parking area behind the main Bus Eireann bus station in Ballyshannon, beside Slevin's Department Store. If you are travelling to Ballyshannon from the south along the N15, after you cross the bridge into town, take the first right (just before Slevin's (also on your right) and you will enter the car park area.

In-car SatNav coordinates for the car park are:-
 N54°30'03.9" W08°11'22.7"
or
N54.501082, W08.189632

The town may be busy on the night, so it may be no harm to arrive a little early.

As it will be getting dark as the carnival starts, it may be a good idea to bring a tripod along with you if you have one.

New members are always welcome.

NEXT MEETING
Just a reminder that the next club meeting will be on Thursday 13 October in the usual venue from 8:00 to 10:00pm. More details will be given closer to the date.

MOTIVATIONAL THEME FOR OCTOBER MEETING
Finally a reminder that the motivational theme for the October meeting is Landscapes.

September Club Meeting

The September meeting of Rainbow Camera Club will take place on Thursday, 8th September  from 8:00pm to 10:00pm in our usual meeting place of The Kabin, Rossinver, Co Leitrim (next to the football field).

The motivational theme for this month is Rain. Members are encouraged to submit up to four images on this theme, taken since the  beginning of this year, for inclusion in the slideshow to be shown after the break at this month's meeting. Please email your photographs to the usual club address (rainbowcameraclub@gmail.com). If at all possible resize your images so that they are 1024 pixels on their longest edge, and make sure that they are sent by midnight on Tuesday 6th September.

Please also note that this month is also a Print motivation month, so members are encouraged to print one of the images they submit for this month at a size of twelve inches by eight inches and bring it along to the meeting for display.

Finally, a reminder that the motivational themes up to the end of the year are as follows:-
  • September: Rain (one to be printed)
  • October:      Landscape
  • November:  Repetition (one to be B&W)
  • December:  Wildlife (one to be printed)

June Photoshoot - Saturday 25th - Truskmore Mountain

This month's club  photoshoot on the summit of Truskmore Mountain will take place tomorrow evening, Sunday 22 June 2014.

Don't worry! We're not going to have to walk up the mountain, as there is a road that we can drive up in our cars.

This is the highest point in both County Sligo and Leitrim, so hopefully there will be some good views to photograph.

DIRECTIONS

The start point for the drive is in the road known as the Gleniff Horseshoe, and is the gated entrance to the RTE access road to their masts on the summit of Truskmore. This is only a few miles from Ballintrillick and the Benwisken Centre.

In-car satnav coordinates for the access gate are (a) N 54deg 22min 10.03sec; W 8deg 23min 41.13sec or (b) N54.369453; W8.394758

Please arrive by 8:00pm. Once we pass through the gates we must lock them behind us. So expect the gates to be locked by 8:00pm.

Although the forecast is for dry weather, you would be advised to bring waterproofs in the car, just in case. Also be aware that it may be quite windy on top, so bring warm clothes with you. If you have a tripod bring this as well.

If you have any queries you can ring Marty on his mobile: 086 1068089.

Hoping to see as many of you as possible.

Club Photoshoot - Sunday 15th May 2016

The club's photoshoot for this month has been arranged for this coming Sunday, 15 May 2016.

We shall be visiting two separate locations in Fermanagh, starting at Castle Caldwell Woods outside Belleek, and then moving on to Florencecourt House and Gardens, not too far from Belcoo.

The arrangement is that members will meet initially at the large Topaz service station on the A46 just on the outskirts of Belleek at 12 noon, and members can car-share from there to Castle Caldwell Forest (where there should be great opportunity to photograph the bluebells).

For any members who will be travelling direct to Florencecourt House, the plan is to arrive there at 3:00pm. If you drive in through the main gate (or even walk in through it) there is a charge of £6 per adult. However, if you drive past the main gate (on your right) there is another locked gate about 40 meters or so further on, also on the right. There is a stile beside this locked gate that you can climb over and walk up to the house for free. The walk takes about 5 to 10 minutes and leads through the woods where there are a lot of photo opportunities.

Club Photoshoot - Sunday 17 April 2016

This month's club photoshoot will be held this Sunday (17th April).

We shall initially be meeting at the Glencar Waterfall car park at 5:00pm for some shots of the waterfall itself and maybe Glencar Lake.

We shall then be heading on to Rosses Point, where the plan is to meet at 6:30pm at the small car park next to the "Waiting On The Shore" statue on the R291 road near the Yeats Country Hotel, Spa & Leisure Club. There is a possibility we may get some nice shot of the sunset here, which might be useful for this month's motivational theme (The Colour Red).

Just in case the evening is too cloudy to see the sunset, the organisers of the shoot have suggested that members could maybe bring along with them something red that could be photographed - red items of clothing, for example.

Members are advised to bring rain gear just in case, and it would also be advisable to wear sensible waterproof footwear. And, of course, a tripod might be useful as well, if you have one (I shall bring a spare one with me).

In-Car SatNav coordinates for the Glencar Waterfall are N54°20'19.2" W8°22'08.9" (or N54.338657, W8.369135)

And the In-Car SatNav coordinates for the Rosses Point meeting spot are N54°18'19.0" W8°34'02.6" (or N54.305289, W8.567388).

Motivational Themes for the Rest of the Year

Below is a list of the monthly motivational themes for the rest of 2016.

   April           Street Photography
   May            The Colour Red
   June           Panoramas
   July            Black & White
   (August      No meeting)
   September Rain
   October      Landscape
   November  Repetition
   December  Wildlife

Please note that it was decided at our February meeting that every third month (starting in March) we shall encourage members to print one of their submissions in the motivation at a size of 12 by 8 inches - and that on every other third month (starting in April) we shall encourage members to include ONE Black & White image in their submissions.

This effectively mean that a print will now be expected in May (not June, as it would be impossible to print a panorama at 12 by 8 inches), September, and December, and one Black & White submission in April, June (not July, as the theme for that month is already Black & White) and November.

So the following is the schedule for the rest of 2016:-

April           Street Photography (one to be B&W)
May            The Colour Red       (one to be printed)
   June           Panoramas
(one to be B&W)
   July            Black & White
   (August      No meeting)
September Rain                         (one to be printed)
   October      Landscape
   November  Repetition
(one to be B&W)
December  Wildlife                     (one to be printed)

If you have difficulty getting an image printed at 12 by 8 inches, you are welcome to email a high quality copy of it at least two days before the particular meeting, and the club will do its best to get it printed for you.

CLUB PHOTOSHOOT - SUNDAY 14 FEBRUARY

A photoshoot has been arranged for this coming Sunday (14 February) in Sligo town. Members should meet by 11:30am (at the latest) in the lower car park, near the Model Arts Gallery on The Mall (directions at the bottom of this email). We shall initially be attempting some Street Photography. The nature of this is such that you should not really need a tripod, but if you have one bring it with you if you wish. If time allows we may head out to somewhere like Mullaghmore in the afternoon.

DIRECTIONS:-
Meet (by 11:30am at the latest) in the lower car park, near the Model Arts Gallery on The Mall. The entrance to this is directly opposite the red-fronted "O'Neills Bar" (which is next to the green-fronted "Leitrim Bar"). The Mall at this point is one-way, heading out of town in the Manorhamilton direction. If you are coming from the Manorhamilton side travel down past Sligo General Hospital (do NOT make the right turn at the traffic lights before the hospital) and you will be directed to the right up a hill just before the entrance to Sligo Grammar School. Bear left at the top of this hill and I think you will then be on Connaughton Road - but the upper car park will be on your left. You can drive down to the lower car park from the upper one.

Hope to see as many of you as possible on Sunday.

CANCELLED! January club meeting.

Sorry for the very late notice, but just to let everyone know that, due to a "Status Orange" snow and ice warning from Met Eireann for counties Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo - with possible snow accumulations of 4 to 8cm, and overnight temperatures to drop below zero - a decision has been made to cancel tonight's club meeting.

Hopefully the weather will improve before the February meeting.

The Open themed motivational slideshow due to be shown tonight will be held over till the February meeting. The theme for this month is Doors/Doorways. Photographs must have been taken since January 1st this year.
